Cyclades

Cyclades

The Cyclades (Greek: Κυκλάδες) are a group of Greek islands found within the Aegean Sea, to the south and east of mainland Greece and Athens. The name Cyclades, means around (κυκλάς), the island of Delos which was thought to be sacred. The Cyclades comprise about 220 islands, the major ones being Amorgos, Ándros, Antiparos, Delos, Ios, Mílos, Mykonos, Náxos, Páros, Sifnos, Síros, Tínos, and Santorini.

Donkey, Equus africanus asinus, also know as ass, is a domesticated member of the horse family. Donkeys are well-known to being stubborn, and also very strong. They are famous for carrying loads, as well as people. On the island of Hydra, Greece, where cars are outlawed, donkeys are the main method of transportation and carrying goods.

Ferries provide essential transportation for tourists throughout Greece and are the lifelines for many small islands which lack any freshwater. The Ferries are fun to take, with cabins on long rides to sleep in (around 50 euro), to deck seats (around 15-20 euro). Faster ferries are much more expensive.

The flag of Greece, known in Greek as Σημαία της Ελλάδος, also known as the "blue and white." There is a blue cross symbolizing the Greek Orthodox Religion and alternating blue and white stripes, that form the image of the sea. The nine stripes represent "Freedom or Death" "Ελευθερία ή Θάνατος."

The geography of Greece is of many mountains and penninsulas which project into the sea. The majority of Greece is formed by mountains, an estimated eighty percent, with Mount Olympus being the largest. Greece also has thousands of islands.

Greece is a democracy, with a parliamentary republic. The President of the Republic is elected by the Parliament for a five-year term. The Political Parties consist of New Democracy and Panhellenic Socialist Movement.
